Be a part of a community rich in history.   The area was settled in 1645 by Swedes, with Penn’s Quakers arriving some thirty-seven years later.  Somerton was originally called Smithfield a village in Moreland Township, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. Somerton was named for Jacob Sommer, whose family lived in the area for four generations.
